How much does commercial gym equipment cost?
Facts checked October 2026
Prices below are published list prices for specific commercial models, checked in October 2026, not estimates. Use them to sanity-check quotes, then ask suppliers for volume pricing: a full fit-out is rarely bought at list price.
Published prices for common commercial equipment
One example per category, from the manufacturer or an authorised dealer. Commercial models cost more than home versions because of heavier steel, higher duty-cycle motors and warranties that cover a dues-paying gym.

What a whole gym costs
Equipment is one line in a build budget. Well Built Florida, a commercial gym builder, puts equipment at about $60,000 for a small build, $300,000 mid-range and up to $1,000,000 for large premium facilities, and a compact 2,000–3,000 sq ft gym at $180,000–$420,000 all-in, including construction, flooring, HVAC and permits.
Its per-unit rules of thumb are $2,000–$15,000 per cardio station and $8,000–$25,000 per multi-station strength setup. Flooring alone runs $4,000–$60,000 depending on area and type, and delivery and installation $2,000–$40,000.
Equipment by category: strength machines, racks and rigs, cardio, plates and bars, dumbbells and flooring.
Why commercial equipment costs more than home equipment
A US equipment retailer, Peak Performance Supply, prices a commercial power cage at $1,200–$2,200 against $700–$1,100 for a home version, and a commercial treadmill at $3,000–$6,000 against $800–$1,500, citing steel gauge, duty-cycle rating, component quality and warranty.
Warranty is the practical difference. Home equipment usually loses its warranty in a gym: TRUE Fitness states placing its home equipment in a commercial setting voids the warranty, and Hoist defines commercial use as a dues-paying facility or more than 50 users a day. See the warranties published by each company in our directory.
Ways to bring the cost down
Buy cardio refurbished. Cardio loses value fastest and refurbishers replace the wear parts: the refurbished Integrity treadmill above sells for about a quarter of its original list price with a new belt, new deck and a 1-year parts and labour warranty.
Buy direct from a factory for volume. OEM factories quote below dealer prices but set minimums, often a full container, and you handle freight, import and installation. Compare that against a distributor, who bundles delivery, installation and servicing.
Mix tiers. Gyms often put their budget into the pieces members notice (cardio consoles, plate-loaded machines) and buy racks, benches and plates from cheaper commercial-grade makers.
Questions
How much does gym equipment cost for a commercial gym?
Single commercial pieces range from about $600 for a bench to over $10,000 for a new commercial treadmill or a multi-station machine. Well Built Florida estimates total equipment spend at about $60,000 for a small gym and around $300,000 for a mid-size one.
How much does it cost to build a 5,000 sq ft gym?
Well Built Florida estimates a larger 5,000–8,000 sq ft facility with premium equipment at $900,000–$2,000,000 all-in, and a compact 2,000–3,000 sq ft gym at $180,000–$420,000. The spread comes mostly from construction, HVAC and equipment tier.
Is refurbished commercial gym equipment worth it?
For cardio it often is, if the seller replaces wear parts and gives a written warranty. One example: a refurbished Life Fitness Integrity treadmill lists at $2,799 with a new belt, new deck and a 1-year parts and labour warranty, against $10,599 originally.
Can I use home gym equipment in a commercial gym?
You can, but it usually voids the warranty. Manufacturers such as TRUE Fitness state that placing home equipment in a commercial setting voids its warranty, so check the commercial terms before buying.
